Se tranco-All this will end in tears
Installation: Sculpture, Wood (cedro mara) 17 × 35 × 850 cm
The work, Se trancó – All this will end in tears, is a meditation on the uncertainty and potential sorrow that accompany transitions. The piece features a set of oversized dominoes seeking to be more than a visual mimicry of the classic game. The layout of the dots conceals a message in Braille. Once deciphered, it reads, ‘All this will end in tears’, a phrase that adds emotional weight and a sense of foreboding. By juxtaposing a seemingly simple game with a poetic warning, Čirkinagić invites viewers to consider who this premonition might apply to, and how even those metaphorically blind may sense impending change. Is artist’s reflecting on the turbulent transitions of his homeland, Yugoslavia or voicing concerns about Cuban society? He deliberately leaves these questions open, presenting an en- crypted message carved into a massive wooden structure, encouraging viewers to interpret its meaning through their own perspectives. His piece explores how transitions, even when they appear resolved or blocked, can lead to unexpected outcomes – just like in a game of dominoes, where the final result only emerges after points are counted.
